Paulo Videira da Costa is a Portuguese Designer, and the Artist behind the Portuguese Label Original World. Born in Angola in the city of Benguela, his family was forced to move to Lisbon in the aftermath of the Portuguese April revolution of 1975. Son of a Radio Journalist, Paulo studied at the secondary School João de Deus in Faro, in the South of Portugal, where his parents moved to at the end of the 1970´s. While working on his degree in Education at UAL, he divided his spare time between surf, visual arts and starting the infamous Rock Band “Amigos de Adíilio”, for wich he composed, sang and played guitar. After graduating he moved to Lisbon to start working in Publicity and Illustration. Designing promotional Merchandise revealed to be a business opportunity that led him to found the Agency SDI (Soluções de Imagem ) in 1998, which became a Design Lab and marketing department for multiple Portuguese textile factories. In a small office with a team of two co-workers, Paulo created the Original Lanyards Brand, which in less than two years was exporting merchandise all over the world. During that time, he created his new Musical alter ego (Pickle Project), editing the Albums: Sounds of a Pleasant Future (2004) and Ahora Suena ( 2005). With growing interest in Video Editing and post production tools, he decided to move to New York, where he studied Filmmaking at the New York Film academy ( NYFA ). During this NYC period, he worked also as assistant at NYFA, and participated in multiple projects around the Academy, from Acting to Photography Direction. Wrote and Directed several short films and music videos. One of them, Direct Mail (2007), was featured in several Film Festivals all over the World. At the same time he worked with Lighting Design, and created several installations ( In-lights) for several New York City buildings. Once back to Lisbon, he decided to transform the Original World Label into a Global Cult Brand, while keeping an eye on his family and new projects.
